This Nandos starter contains more calories than THREE portions of McDonald’s chicken nuggets

WE all thought we were going for the healthy option, but it turns out the Nando's houmous starter contains more calories than THREE portions of McDonald's chicken nuggets.

We're still reeling from the news that a pot of Domino's garlic and herb dip is packed with more cals than two McDonald’s cheeseburgers, at 675 calories in total.

Now we discover that the yummy £3.60 starter at the popular chicken restaurant chain contains 800 calories - 125 more than the Domino's sauce.

Three portions of McNuggets, which come in four specific shapes, adds up to 777 cals.

To be fair, the 800 calories includes the starter-size portion of ' "creamy hummus" as well as its "PERi-PERi drizzle" and several pieces of pitta for dipping.

It turns out the starter is actually intended for sharing.

A spokesperson for Nando's told The Sun Online: "Our Houmous starter is ideal for two people to share, and features two pieces of pitta bread (384 calories), houmous (319 calories) and  PERi-PERi drizzle (97 calories).

"For a lighter option you could try the Red Pepper Dip, which features pitta strips accompanied by a roasted red pepper and chilli spice dip which comes in at 464 calories all together.”

In February this year Nando’s launched its hottest PERi-PERi sauce yet.
