Who is Giles Deacon? Designer behind Pippa Middleton’s wedding dress who’s collaborated with New Look and Debenhams
THE wedding of the year took place last weekend, with Pippa Middleton marrying James Middleton without a hitch.
But who is the designer behind her dazzling lace dress, and who else has worn his creations?
Who is Giles Deacon?
While her sister Kate Middleton opted for a long-sleeved dress by Sarah Burton from Alexander McQueen, Pippa selected a stunning number by Giles Deacon.
Giles is a 47-year-old designer who is originally from County Durham, where the Middletons’ ancestors hail.
He is a graduate of London’s prestigious St Martins College of Art and Design, which also counts Stella McCartney in its alumni.
The talented designer has won many awards such as British Fashion Designer of the Year in 2006.
He is one of the most sought-after British designers and is famed for creating dramatic clothes for “women who want to be noticed.”
Giles has dressed some of the biggest stars of the red carpets at events such as Cannes, the Met Ball and the Emmy Awards.
He is currently said to be dating Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie, who plays the character of Brienne of Tarth.
Who has Giles Deacon collaborated with?
Giles has kept busy with a number of collaborations with the likes of Sky, Converse and even Cadbury.
For the confectionary giant, he created a limited-edition scarf in celebration of the launch of the first-ever digital pop-up shop to promote its new range of Caramel Nibbles.
He has also worked with high street chain New Look to create a collection that was modelled by Drew Barrymore in the first ad campaigns.
He has also designed for Mulberry and Debenhams.
What was Pippa Middleton’s wedding dress like?
Pippa’s £40,000 Giles Deacon white dress had shades of the Alexander McQueen gown worn by Kate.
Even the bouquet was a simple white posy just like the one carried by her sister in Westminster Abbey.
In a statement Deacon said he was "thrilled" to work with Pippa and described his stunning creation.
He said: "The bespoke silk cotton lace was hand appliqued to create an illusion of the dress having 'no seams.
"The lace bodice is embroidered with pearl detailing over an organza and tulle underskirt, which has layer upon layer to enable a floor-sweeping movement.
“It's a privilege to show the craftsmanship that my team produces in London and a real testament to Pippa's support of British fashion."
Who else has Giles Deacon dressed?
Giles has a legion of celebrity fans, including models of the moment Kendall Jenner and Cara Delevingne, along with Scarlett Johansson, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Victoria Beckham.
Another of his famous brides was model and Strictly Come Dancing winner Abbey Clancy, who he dressed for her wedding to footballer Peter Crouch.
For her big day, Abbey wore a strapless, corseted lace dress, that flared out from above the knee.
