This is why you should ALWAYS wet your make-up sponge

Not wetting your make-up sponge could have a huge impact on your wallet, as well as your application

BYE BYE brushes, makeup sponges are the make-up artist wannabe obsession that refuses to go away - but many of us are using them wrong.

If you are occasionally too lazy to get up and wet your sponge then you could be ruining your wallet as well as your applicator.

The holy grail of makeup sponges, , took to Instagram to explain why those of us who are guilty of skipping this crucial step need to stop.

The post explained: "One of the reasons we always say you need to wet your blender is because water causes the sponge to swell and it ensures your make-up won't be absorbed, which results in less make-up waste."

The text was accompanied by a video showing a BeautyBlender being cut in half to reveal a make-up free "pink and perfect" centre.

Not soaking your sponge before you use it means it will absorb more of your make-up - and consequently your cash.

The thought of our dry make-up sponges soaking up our - often expensive - product is almost as horrifying as watching those poor BeautyBlenders facing the chop.
