THOUGHT the side boob was daring? Models have been taking to clubs and bars wearing nothing but strategically-placed duct tape over their nipples and intimate areas.
The fearless new fashion trend was spearheaded by Joel Alvarez, a designer from Miami, who launched an “artistic” venture called the Black Tape Project.
But could you rock the racy look in Britain? Brave Sun girl Deni Kirkova, 25, from London, stripped off and taped up for a night out in Dirty Harry’s, a busy bar in London’s Soho.
Deni admitted: “Standing fully starkers in front of make-up artist Julia, I felt a little vulnerable and terrified at the prospect of wearing just tape on a night out.
"Little did I know that being strapped up in the stuff would actually make me feel supported, strong and sexy.
“The straps round my midriff and boobs felt like a structured corset, while the tape wrapped around my legs felt like thigh-high sandals.”
After necking a few Sex On The Beach cocktails for Dutch courage, Deni ditched her black coat and strutted onto the dance floor.
Shocked punters who were enjoying a quiet after-work pint downed their beers and gawped as she made her way to the bar.
Alessandro, a 21-year-old student from Rome, Italy, nearly choked on his craft ale after spotting her.
“She looks good but I almost couldn’t look at her,” he told The Sun Online. “It’s quite embarrassing when someone is almost naked. You can’t not look at her.”
His best mate Gicomo, 20, a barman, was equally impressed.
“She looks f***ing good! It looks very fun,” he gushed, without taking his eyes off her. “I’ve been in London for six months and have never seen anything like this before.”
Deni tried to go about her evening as if she was dressed for any other normal night out.
She shared a joke with the blushing barman, posed for selfies with impressed mates and partied with the club's dancers.
But she admits there were times she felt self-conscious. She said: “There were moments when I was wary of what people might be seeing...
“Sitting down for a cocktail, I had to cross my legs. And when the dancers pulled me up on the bar for a boogie, I knew I'd have to maintain a little composure so that people at the bar wouldn't see too much, and also so I wouldn't fall off!”
Most onlookers applauded her bravery – but many female punters thought it was a bit OTT.
Shop worker Gloria, 29, from London, told The Sun Online: “If you’ve got the body and can rock it, why not? I wouldn’t try it though, not even after a few drinks. For me it’s too much. To be sexy you don’t need to show your whole body.”
Her colleague Catalina, 35, agreed: “I’m too old to dress like that. If I was 18? Maybe. But I hope my daughter never dresses like that.”
Deni said the gaffer tape might send out the wrong signals. “It's not the kind of trend that's worth pursuing if you want to pull a stable fella,” she said. “I think it attracts just the sexual kind of attention and gives the wrong impression.”
Barman Fidan, 35, from London, wasn’t sure if he’d let his girlfriend or sister out of the house dressed in tape.
“It’s not often you see women dressed like this,” he said. “I wouldn’t suggest it but why not? It’s a free world. If you dress that way you’re looking for attention though.”
Make-up artist Julia reveals how she created Deni’s eye-catching look:
“The look is surprisingly wearable – if you’ve got an amazing body and the guts.
“It’s all about angles and symmetry. You do have to take your time so the angles match.
“It’s about not overthinking it. Anything goes.
“I started on the boobs and then moved down to the bum area.
“To get it off you could just rip it or if that’s too painful I’d recommend sitting in a hot bath and letting it peel away.
“It’s normal duct tape, just from a local DIY shop. It took an hour to do.
“I think it will be popular come festival season. You could use different coloured tape, glitter and body paint for a real eye-catching look.”
Aside from the obvious nudity, the bold outfit does have its setbacks.
Going to the toilet is nigh on impossible, it takes over an hour to put on and sitting down isn’t very comfortable.
Deni said: “I couldn't go to the loo at all night. It's just another reason not to 'break the seal'. Whether you're wearing real knickers beneath the tape or just the tape covering your nether regions, going to the loo in this outfit would be a risky business.
“If I was to stay in it for longer than two hours, I'd employ precautions such as carrying a spare roll of tape to strap back up after peeling the stuff off for a bathroom break.”
Deni said punters were “too shocked or in awe” to try and rip the tape off her and while she thought it was fun, she doubts she'll be trying it again soon.
“I doubt I could have got away with this brave outfit doing the weekly shop in Marks & Spencer though,” she said.
“The only time I'd consider this appropriate is for fancy dress or perhaps at a festival, if everyone else was also wearing outrageous outfits.”
Before Deni jumped in a taxi home, she was cornered by impressed pals Monika, 23, a waitress, and Luce, 24, a bar worker.
Monika said: “I think it’s super-confident to do something like that. She’s gorgeous. I wish I had the confidence to do something like that. She’s half naked but it looks like artwork. It’s beautiful.”
Luce joked: “I wouldn’t go out dressed like that – maybe if I had the body. You see a lot of girls not wearing a lot but I’m not sure if she’d be let into clubs!”
Deni added: “I don't actually think I'd ever wear this in real life. It's only for the bravest of the brave.”
The trend has been made famous by the , a US firm who “tape up” models to attend events in the provocative style.
They claim their unusual fashion “outfits” combine one of the most common household items with the beauty of the human body.
And the tape art movement has certainly not gone unnoticed online.
The company’s page boasts over 169,000 followers who flock to see images of nude women partially covered in tape designs.
The company recently shared a video clip featuring a beautiful model taking a dip in the sea with nothing but the glittering gold design covering her modesty.
