A HEARTBROKEN bride-to-be who was dumped by her fiancé a few months before their big day threw a party to trash her £1,000 wedding dress – covering it with fluorescent paint, before setting it on fire.

Jen Brown, 27, was devastated when her fiancé Jared Sanders, 29, ended their two-year relationship, after falling out of love with her just before their wedding.

Instead of moping, she wore the designer gown to its own farewell party – enjoying a paint fight with close pals and proposing a Champagne toast to a new chapter in her life, before dramatically burning the dress in her garden – even though she still hasn’t finished paying for it.

Golf course waitress Jen, from Georgia in America, said: “It felt really liberating.

“It was a good distraction for my broken heart and a chance to start a new chapter in my life, and put an old one to bed.”

Ex Jared said he understood her drastic actions.

He said: “Things got very difficult…. a girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do to let go of the past.”

Lovebirds Jen and truck driver Jared met in August 2014, when Jen looked into renting a room in his home in Temple, Georgia.

She said: “I never actually rented his room but I was pet-sitting for his dogs, so we eventually started hanging out.

“We were having so much fun together at weekends, so I fell for him pretty quickly. We had only been together for three months when I told him I loved him.

“As we were already living together, things just felt perfect.”

After just eight months of dating, romantic Jared proposed at a beauty spot in downtown Dallas.

Jen said: “He’d invited all my friends and family down. They were all hiding and when they came out to surprise me, I turned and saw Jared was down on one knee.

“He was really choked up and said he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, and of course I said yes.”

The pair quickly started making plans to tie the knot at a chapel in the Tennessee mountains on October 22 2016.

With the chapel booked, six bridesmaids kitted-out in beautiful pink and grey dresses, all that was left for Jen to sort out was her dress.

With mum Phyllis Lyewski, 50, and her sisters in tow, Jen spent hours trying on countless gowns, but struggled to find the perfect one.

She said: “I was actually becoming pretty discouraged. Girls say when you try on the right dress you all cry, and you just know, but I hadn’t had that.

“But then the shop assistant said she had one more for me to try. The minute I saw it I just knew it was right, I fell in love with it.”

The antique ivory dress with a corset back cost £1,000 ($1,300) so Jen paid for most of it on her credit card.

But by May 2016, just months before the wedding, Jared and Jen started to argue.

“I was going back to school to study health care information management, whilst working full time at my local golf course. I was busy and stressed,” she explained.

“My 25-year-old brother Corey had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure in the December before, and he was really sick, so I had a lot on my mind.

“I became depressed and was really mean, hitting out at everyone, especially Jared.”

By August, the relationship had become too hard and Jared decided to end it.

“I was devastated and totally lost,” Jen said.

“We’d planned our whole wedding, were about to send out the invitations and spend the rest of our lives together. But we just fell out of love. It was no one’s fault, but I was still heartbroken.”

She moved back to her mum’s house to get over the heartache, but kept the wedding gown, hanging in the wardrobe.

Then, in October, looking for some closure, Jen decided to destroy the frock and try to move on.

“My friends had tried to get me to sell it, but that didn’t work. I knew I needed to get rid of the dress and start a new chapter,” she said.

“So I was at work one day in October, the same month I was due to get married, when I thought, ‘I’m going to trash that dress.’ I didn’t want it to be a beautiful dress anymore, I wanted it ruined.”

Jen mooted the idea of a "trash the dress" bash with friends the following month but, tragically, on December 8, her brother Corey died, so the party was put on hold.

In March this year, Jen was ready to get rid of her wedding dress for good.

“My mum ordered £45 ($60) of paints and brushes and I got T-shirts made for some friends and bridesmaids, which read ‘team ex-bride’ on the front and 'if you’re happy and you know it, thank your ex’ on the back.”

Despite being all for the party, Jen still cried when she donned the unworn gown.

“It was really hard, but I had all my girls around me and I just wanted to have some fun,” she admitted.

“For two hours we threw paints at each other in Clinton Nature Preserve in Villa Rica, Georgia. The dress was completely ruined and I felt so free and powerful.”

Afterwards, the women cracked open bottles of Champagne and toasted Jen’s new beginnings and later she burnt the dress in her back garden.

Jen, who is now single, said: “It was a really great feeling. I am still paying off the wedding dress, I’ve got about £30 left and then I will finally be free.”

Last week, we revealed a bridezilla had dumped a bridesmaid and banned kids in a bid for the perfect wedding.

Another sent a list of demands to her bridesmaids - including WEIGH INS in the run up to her big day.
