Meet the 'Mayllennials'

Young women who are fans of Theresa May post hilarious memes praising her fashion and unflashy politics

FIRST there was the ‘Mili-babes’. Then the ‘Corbynators’, but now a new group of political superfans are gaining popularity.

Meet the ‘Mayllennials’, a small but fast-growing fandom of young women that praise Theresa May’s on-trend fashion choices and unflashy political style.

The PM, 60, is receiving a wealth of support from politcally-engaged, female social media users via hilarious memes and comical online posts.

One Instagram account ‘’ – a pun on the famous Nsync song, It’s Gonna Be Me – shares photographs of the Conservative Party leader as she hits the campaign trail, meets The Queen and enjoys walks with her husband, Philip.

The bio of the page reads: “It’s Gonna be TMay, Theresa May appreciation IG acct / / #TM4PM #ItsGonnaBeMay #MaysAhead.”

There are also funny images of Mrs May Photoshopped onto the cover of erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey (the title has been edited to Article Fifty Shades of May), as a retro postcard pin-up model and in a Peep Show sketch alongside Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

spoke to the account creator, a 20-year-old British woman who is now living in America, who told them she admired Mrs May’s “ability to get the job done while still being able to loosen up sometimes.”

She added: "I'm mostly interested in TM and she's the reason I tolerate the Tories, although I hold views considered to be progressive by most of the Conservative party in the UK."

Many of the social media pages are an antidote to accounts set up by those with far-right views.

The Sun Online has contacted the superfans for further comment.

Another Instagram account focuses on the PM's much applauded wardrobe choices.

‘’ states it is “the original and trusted source for fashion updates of our stylish Prime Minister”.

The account features close-up shots of her Russell and Bromley pearl-encrusted cocktail slippers, her famous leopard print kitten heels and information on where to buy her smart dresses.

Numerous Tumblr accounts that have been set up by women are also pledging their support to the PM, including and .

One young Brit told that she launched a blog about The PM in order to share “positive, fun” content.

She added: "I think so many young people are appreciative of TM because we not only believe that she's the best person for the job, but that she's redefining the role of leadership by doing away with a lot of the fuss."

Meanwhile, The PM's husband says she issues him strict instructions to take out the bins.

Philip May made the comment last night during his first TV interview alongside his wife on The One Show.

Tory election chiefs are trying to soften The PM's image ahead of the General Election on 8 June.

The 59-year-old financial adviser joked there was “give and take in every marriage”, he added: “I get to decide when I take the bins out, not if I take the bins out.”

His wife jumped in to say: “There’s boy jobs and girl jobs”.

Mr May agreed: “I do the traditional boy jobs, by and large.”
