YouTubers Candace Lowry and Michelle Khare try the Victoria’s Secret Angels’ pre-show diet for 4 days… and say they wouldn’t wish it on their worst enemies
TWO YouTubers have taken on the most gruelling diet in showbiz - the one which helps the Victoria's Secret Angels perfect their bikini bodies.
In Candace Lowry's latest video, she enlisted pal for the challenge - and spent four days eating like Gigi Hadid and Jasmine Tookes just before their annual show.
In the video, Michelle said: "This diet is absolutely terrible and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemies."
Candace, meanwhile, described the restrictive diet as the "week from hell".
After weeks of following a strict healthy eating regime, the Angels fast for nine days - surviving on nothing but protein shakes, powdered egg whites and water, while exercising twice a day.
The Victoria's Secret diet the girls followed
DAYS 1 & 2
- Breakfast: Oatmeal, eat whites, cottage cheese or yoghurt, and fruit
- Lunch: Salad with chicken or fish
- Dinner: Sashimi with brown rice
- OR salmon, courgette, green beans and rice
DAYS 3 & 4:
- Protein shake
- Powdered egg whites
- Water
- Repeated three times a day
In a 2015 interview, Adriana Lima admitted that she consumes nothing - including water - in the 12 hours prior to the show.
The vloggers took on a tamer version of the diet, tackling the normal diet for two days and the liquid diet for another two - but they certainly didn't find it easy.
At first the girls were confident, with Michelle joking: "At first I was like ‘where are the snacks?’ We’re gonna show Victoria's Secret who’s boss this week.
"I’m gonna look fly by the end of it. Seriously don’t try this at home. Watch this video instead."
But by dinner on Day 1, Michelle was saying: "The award for the most boring dinner of the night goes to me. I’m going to eat this and cry."
The next day, Michelle said she was "nervous about having enough energy" to get through her two exercises classes - which were an hour and a half of kung fu and a couple of hours of parkour.
Meanwhile, Candace worried that all the vegetables she was consuming in her meals - which she reckons added up to 800 calories-a-day - would make her "farty".
At the end of Day 2, Michelle said: "I am tried. Just really, really tired because on this Victoria's Secret diet I can’t really eat the things I want to eat.
"After I train I want to reward myself and I can’t reward myself. And instead I’m cooking vegetables right now for a snack. I guess that’s just the life of a model."
The diet made Candace physically sick overnight on Day 2. She added: "I actually got really sick to my stomach and threw up last night.
"It’s actually nicer timing to be on an all liquid diet today. I’m sorry Michelle, you’re probably dying."
By the end of Day 4, Michelle said: "It’s pretty bad. I am tired of drinking my food. I am tired of the taste of chocolate protein powder.
"And I don’t even want to look at powdered egg ever again in my life.
"I just feel a lot of frustration and I have to come out of my body and remind myself ‘this is because you are starving. It is not because your life is actually terrible’."
After successfully completing the challenge, Michelle said: "Days 3 and 4 were so hard. It was really about survival.
"I have never gone all liquid and egg whites for a day - which was incredibly challenging because we had to continue working out on top of that.
"I had trouble sleeping too, because I was hungry."
Candace added: "I could barely do liquid for two, I don’t know how they do it for nine. It’s just not sustainable."
Michelle concluded: "It’s strange to me that, not only is that so unhealthy, but no one in their right mind as a regular person would go through this.
"And these models are supposed to represent the people who are buying the clothes, who are regular people."
