Sarah, 26, says she doesn't want twins Jayden and Jacob to get bullied at school
A SINGLE mum has revealed how she often goes without meals for up to a week in order to be able to afford designer clothes for her twin boys.
Part-time care assistant Sarah, 26, who has twin sons Jayden and Jacob, eight, said it is important to her to give them everything she never had.
The self-sacrificing mum features on the Channel 4 show Single Mums Club and said: “I'll starve myself for a week to buy them a pair of Jordans [Nike Air Jordan trainers].”
The show follows a number of mothers raising their kids alone in Liverpool, including Sarah as she balances being a mum and studying towards a degree in events management.
She said of cutting out meals: “I'm skinnier, so it's win-win.
"I will do everything I can to make them the popular kids. Because I know the popular kids have the easier school run.
"I always feel there's that stereotype because I’m a single mum. So I will push my very, very hardest so they aren't meffs [Liverpudlian slang word for homeless]."
Hardworking Sarah said that her priorities are extremely different to that of her fellow students.
She admitted: “My whole life is dedicated to the twins, then the next thing from that is paying bills, which is my job, then the third thing is what I want to do in the future and my dreams and goals.”
Although money is tight, she does try and put some aside to treat herself.
But she admitted that bills have to be paid for alongside “nails, hair jobs, tattoos, clothes shopping for me... it’s a tight squeeze”.
As well as giving her sons the best she can in life, Sarah said that she is keen to teach her sons how to respect women.
The boys can be seen reciting the proud mum’s mantra: “Be respectful, caring and loving.”
Although they are learning this from a young age, they have raised the question with their mum of why she is no longer with their dad.
Sarah defended her decision saying she believes she deserves more than their dad can offer and that she wants a man who can “teach your kids some substantial s***”.
The doting mum said that she got into an abusive relationship after splitting with the boys’ dad.
She said: “For me it’s a very normal thing, domestic violence is one of them things you are just privy to it because you accept so much.
“I feel like I deserve more than what I set myself up for. I feel like my kids deserve to see me getting treated well.”
Heartbreaking scenes in the show revealed the moment Jacob was left in tears when she refused to allow him to see his dad more.
