WEDDING BLUES

This is how much the average hen or stag do costs – and it’s so huge people can’t afford any other holidays

HEN parties used to be about a bride and her mates having a girls’ night out before her big day.

But nowadays the cost of a hen or stag do has risen to astronomical amounts - with the average person forking out a staggering £507 per event.

Brits even admitted to sacrificing their own holidays so they could attend the big event.

And a third said they expected to use their annual leave for stag or hen dos, which now often involve trips abroad or a full weekend of activities.

The average cost of a pre-wedding soiree is split into the following areas:

  • £109 travel
  • £90 accommodation
  • £75 alcohol
  • £50 clothes
  • £63 activities
  • £57 food
  • £63 pre-wedding gifts

The rising costs have understandably been a cause of concern for many, with four in five (80 per cent) saying they feel hen dos and stag dos are far too pricey.

And nearly half (46 per cent) said they have felt pressured to attend an event they just don’t have the funds for.

The research, conducted by clothing retailer Banana Moon, found that despite the rising costs, just over half (55 per cent) of Brits feel they are still integral to a wedding.

In fact, one in five (17 per cent) say the celebrations are the entire reason they want to be married.

For the price guests fork out, you’d hope the event was well worth the effort and expense.

Thankfully a third of people (32 per cent) admitted they enjoyed the stag or hen do more than the wedding itself.
