What is Heads Together?

Heads Together is a mental health campaign led by The Royal Foundation in partnership with YoungMinds and seven other charities.

It aims to challenge mental health stigma and change how it is perceived.

It was made the 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon Charity of the Year and worked alongside ten runners with mental illnesses during the annual race.

Heads Together commissioned a YouGov poll which found nearly half (46 per cent) of 5,003 adults, questioned in February, have talked recently about mental health, with a quarter chatting about their own psychological problems.

What do Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry do for Heads Together?

The trio have been part of the campaign to work against the negative attitudes to talking about mental health.

They commissioned ten films of celebrities talking about their problems and the times when talking about it made a huge difference.

The royals said: "Since we launched Heads Together last May, we have seen time and time again that shattering stigma on mental health starts with simple conversations.

“When you realise that mental health problems affect your friends, neighbours, children and spouses, the walls of judgement and prejudice around these issues begin to fall.

"And we all know that you cannot resolve a mental health issue by staying silent. Attitudes to mental health are at a tipping point.

"We hope these films show people how simple conversations can change the direction of an entire life."

Prince William even FaceTimed Lady Gaga to talk about their philanthropic work.

After praising the pop singer for speaking out about mental health, the Duke of Cambridge then revealed why he decided to embark on the Heads Together project.

He said: “Harry, Katherine and I really felt this was such an important area that throughout all of our charitable work whether it was veterans, homelessness, addiction, most of it seemed to stem back to mental health awareness.”

They have also called for employers to look after their workers mental health.

Prince William gave a speech in August saying: "Our vision to create a society that treats mental health like physical health, as something to be nurtured, needs your help.

We cannot do this without employers – and we believe it is in your interest.

"Over the coming months, Heads Together and our partners will be building on the excellent work already being done by many in this room to identify gaps in support, enhance existing services and develop new solutions for mental health in the workplace."

Prince William is due to unveil the latest initiative from the team, Mental Health at Work.

The latest campaign is due to launch on September 11, in conjunction with Mind and Heads Together.

Kensington Palace said in a statement: "is a new online gateway that will change the way we approach workplace mental health across the UK."

The Heads Together claimed one in six British workers are affected by mental health issues, but only two per cent of people were taking action and speaking to HR about it.

The website explained what the new campaign aimed to achieve, saying: “The new workplace mental health initiative that we are developing with Mind includes a ‘Mental Health at Work’ website and online training that will aim to equip employees and managers with tools, training and a good understanding of mental wellbeing in order to create a healthy and supportive working environment.

“This website will bring together curated online resources enabling employers to access workplace mental health and online training, including specific training for Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs), for whom it is often more difficult to provide employee mental health support.”

How else have Prince Harry and Prince William spoken out about mental health issues?

Harry has confessed to “shutting down” his feelings after Diana’s tragic death.

After opening-up about his traumatic ordeal, the Prince disclosed that he sought therapy and took up boxing to combat his frustration.

He also admitted that fun and humour helped him to deal with the pain of losing his mum.

Following his brother's brave admission, Prince William blasted the monarchy for their "stiff upper lip" tradition.

A former Royal Editor also revealed his insight into Harry's raging anger after Diana's heart-breaking death.

Another correspondent reported that the Charles' youngest son went off the rails after his mum's passing.

Prince William has also revealed that Diana's death prompted him to speak out about mental health.

The dad-of-two said: “I have my reasons for getting involved with mental health with what happened with my mum when I was younger. I still feel the shock within me.”

When is World Mental Health Day and how are the Royals getting involved?

The calendar charity date falls on October 10 each year.

On the big day, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry will be hosting a reception at County Hall and the London Eye.

They will give a talk about the Heads Together campaign as well as meeting members of the public.

For their #Thereforme campaign, the Royals will thanks those who provided support for their loved ones during times of ill mental health.

Which other celebrities are involved in the Heads Together campaign?

Ruby Wax, Alastair Campbell, Mark Austin, Freddie Flintoff and Stephen Manderson - better known as Professor Green - all discuss their battles with mental health in the films.

Alongside the well known faces are two paramedics based in Blackpool.

The films feature people from all walks of life as they talk about their mental health.

In many of the films they are speaking with the person they first opened up to as part of a life changing conversation.

Stephen said of his pivotal moment: "That conversation changed everything, because from that point everything was out in the open and I was able to talk to my friends about it."
