The Chase fans mercilessly mock contestant for saying a mantelpiece goes over a RADIATOR

Lennon gave the unfortunate answer during his cash builder round - though he still made it through to the final chase

THE Chase fans can be a cruel bunch, and they pounced tonight when a contestant made a very embarrassing blunder.

Lennon, a musician from Fareham, didn't make a good start to his cash builder round, getting his first answer spectacularly wrong.

The 19-year-old previously told host Bradley Walsh he'd love to make it in the music industry but admitted he's looking at getting into estate agency as that's more "realistic".

He said he'd invest in new guitar if he won big money on the show, and treat his new fiancee Jodie to something special - adding that they're hoping to get a house in the next three or four years.

But when Lennon, who is a big fan of former Beatles legend John Lennon, kicked off his cash builder round, his hopes for taking home a share of the prize fund looked bleak.

Asked: "A mantelpiece is usually found above what household feature?" Lennon looked puzzled before answering: "Radiator."

Unsurprisingly the correct answer was fireplace - and The Chase gang found this hilarious.

One tweeted: "I dont usually take the mick, because pressure can do anything... But good grief, you find a mantelpiece above a what? Radiator."

Another joked: "In a household, the mantelpiece usually sits under??? The radiator go on Lennon lad haha!"

Lennon seemed to recover as the round went on, notching up a respectable £4,000.

He then faced Chaser Mark Labbett - and made it home by the skin of his teeth, thanks to a music question that saved his bacon.

The next contestant up - Pippa - raised their prize fund to £13,000 - but sadly the duo succumbed to The Beast, who caught them with 20 seconds to spare.

Last week we told how The Chase stars were left speechless after winning Let’s Sing and Dance for Comic Relief – but were more concerned about their loose shoelaces than the prize.

Earlier this month we reported how The Chase viewers were tickled after noticing all the contestants shared names with Disney and Pixar characters.
