Do you pay your council tax in instalments over 10 months? There could be an easier way

Since April 2013, you are entitled to spread the cost over 12 months, so can pay off the bill in slightly smaller chunks.

As nine out of ten councils have revealed they are hiking their tax demands on local bill payers next month by up to £80, this could be a way of managing the costs.

And it is a lot easier to take advantage of this payment scheme than you might think.

Simply contact your council and ask them to recalculate your bills over 12 months instead of 10.

They are legally obliged to provide this payment service, and you will receive an amended bill at no extra cost.
