Rare plastic £5 note with early serial number set to sell for more than £50,000 on eBay

A PLASTIC £5 note with an early serial number is set to fetch more than £50,000 on eBay.

The note with the serial number the serial number AA01 444444 has attracted a whopping 135 bids from 20 different eBay users.

Keen bidders will continue battling it out online until midday today when the auction will end.

Brits are now being urged to check their wallets as experts claim fivers with low serial numbers are the most desired among collectors.

However, cops have recently issued a warning on fake plastic notes doing the rounds in the South West.

When first introduced fivers with the serial number AA01 fetched for hundreds of pounds online.

The note with the lowest number offered to the public – AA01 000017 – was sold by the Bank of England in a charity auction for £4,150 in October.

The Bank of England was also met with controversy last month after by vegan activists slammed the discovery of cow fat traces in the new polymer notes.

The old £5 note featuring prison reformer Elizabeth Fry will stop being accepted in shops after May 5.
