Which? calculated the miles per gallon on each vehicle according to the average fuel prices in 2016, when petrol cost 109.2 pence per litre and diesel cost 109.7 pence per litre. But fuel costs are rising - so drivers face even higher costs this year.

The Renault Clio is the least fuel-efficient small car on the market; filing up costs £852 a year - £366 more than the most fuel-efficient motor on the market.
A typical Renault Clio model costs £10,740 and has a 1.6-litre engine.
Which? rates the car just 62 per cent, in part because it's so uneconomical to run.
