Former Domino’s worker claims it used full-fat cheese instead of low-fat and sourced stock from supermarkets
A former Domino's worker lifts the lid on what he claims really goes on behind the scenes
A FORMER Domino's staff member has exposed what went on behind the scenes of the store he worked at, and it doesn't make for easy reading.
The anonymous whistle-blower claimed workers used full-fat cheese rather than low-fat cheese, bought ingredients at the supermarket, and used the same pizza cutter to slice meat, fish and vegetarian pizzas.
, the former employee who worked at the company for three-and-a-half years, claimed that pressure to meet target delivery times meant potato wedges were sent out to customers before they were properly cooked.
Other claims made by the staff member, who worked at a branch in the east Midlands, include: workers using the same pizza cutter for meat, fish and veggie pizzas without cleaning the utensil in between, workers buying onions from local Asian supermarkets when they ran out, and garlic bread being made with the thickest type of dough because they had run out of the right type.
The revelation comes just days after Domino's was forced to deny allegations that a worker bought hundreds of raw chicken wings and coleslaw from Aldi.
Last week Caroline Foskett says she spotted a pizza shop employee “awkwardly wandering up and down the aisles” with a trolley.
The man was apparently waiting for Aldi staff to restock the freezer after he had emptied it of chicken wings and dippers in Dartford, Kent.
Teacher Caroline claims the man already had six tubs of coleslaw, eight boxes of chicken strips and the same volume in chicken wings.
Domino's said the man was carrying out a personal grocery shop.
In a separate incident, a Domino's worker was spotted buying £1 bags of potato wedges in bulk from Asda while in his uniform.
At the time, a spokeswoman for Domino’s said: “With a big sporting weekend, very occasionally some products may run out in our stores. We do not advocate this as a solution and are investigating.”
According to the Domino's whistle-blower, low-fat cheese was sometimes substituted for full-fat without informing the customer who had requested it, he claims.
He says his manager never bought in much of the low-fat alternative as it was not in high demand.
He told the Mail: "This is very sad as customers believed they could have a pizza at less fat than usual but were not aware they were eating the same pizza as everyone else."
The claims made by the ex-employee related to one specific branch, and do not suggest that the alleged practices are common across the chain.
A spokesperson for Domino's said: "It is difficult to respond to these allegations without seeing any evidence or knowing to which store these claims refer.
"We have not received any calls to our anonymous team member helpline, or customer feedback to support these allegations.
"The Food Standards Agency has given all stores in East Staffordshire the highest ratings possible and their customer satisfaction is well above average.
"We have zero tolerance for any store which fails to comply with our high operational standards and we run over 3,000 unannounced audits annually, to ensure all policies are adhered to. Nevertheless, we have taken the opportunity to remind every store about the strict standards we expect."
