Qantas will soon be streaming Netflix and Spotify on flights for free

The extensive in-flight movie selection has always been a big perk of plane journeys, but now Qantas are now upping the stakes by offering Spotify, Netflix and Aussie TV app Fotxel too.

So even if the airline’s films aren’t up to scratch, there is plenty more to help distract from the stranger snoring next to you.

Qantas has teamed up with the three subscription sites to offer free access, with a 30 free days trial for Netflix and Spotify, as well as a free three-day trial for Foxtel.

The airline is also launching super fast WiFi so that passengers won’t face a load of interruptions to their viewing.

That also means that passengers will be able to do all of the web-browsing that they usually do at home, like shopping and social media browsing.

The service is being rolled out on their domestic flights next month, with the rest of the airline’s fleet of domestic Boeing 737 and Airbus A330 aircraft will follow from mid-2017 onwards.

Customers will log on to the Qantas in-flight Wi-Fi via their own devices, and will be greeted by a landing page with a range of options.

Qantas Group Executive of Brand, Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Olivia Wirth said:
“We know that email, online shopping and general web browsing will be popular uses when we switch on Wi-Fi.

"But what a lot of people relish about flying is being able to catch up on their favourite TV shows or watch movies they didn’t get to see at the cinema.”
