Anchor Cheddar to disappear from shelves as Asda becomes last supermarket to drop the failing line
The cheese will no longer be on supermarket shelves after falling sales
IT'S YET another blow for British food as the supermarkets have dropped Anchor Cheddar from their shelves.
Launching in 1972, the famous dairy brand will now shut up shop on its cheddar as Asda have become the last supermarket to ditch the line and sell of it's remaining stock.
Producers of the chesse were hit by the bad news as, despite a £6million advertising push in 2015, sales had fallen to by a whopping £17.8million from £28million to £10.2million.
The cheese, made by Arla, is said to have lost ground to household favourites like Cathedral City and Pilgrim's Choice.

According to industry magazine The Grocer, supermarkets are having a major cull of their cheddar brands in a bid to simplify their offering and focus on own-label products.
Despite claims that the cheddar was a "British icon" twitter users seem relatively unfazed by the news, with little customer reaction at all.
