Now Italian researchers reckon that speaking more than one language can help slow down the progression of the disease.

This seems to be because being bilingual means that you use more of your brain.

HIGH RISK

YOU need to make changes now before it is too late.

Make sure your weight is in the healthy range, be as active as you can and spruce up your diet to include as much fruit and vegetables as possible.

It might be worth booking in for a health MOT, too.

Speak to your GP about how to improve your lifestyle.

MEDIUM RISK

MAKE some changes to your lifestyle to ensure your head – and heart – remain healthy as you age.

Incorporate more activity into your daily life and watch your diet closely.

Ensure you are socialising and keeping your mind active, too.

Making changes now will also help cut your chances of developing other serious conditions, such as heart disease and cancer.

LOW RISK

YOUR lifestyle is relatively healthy but there is no room for complacency.

Everyone has some bad habits and it’s likely you know what they are.

Whether it’s a love of sugar, regularly having one glass of wine too many or going to bed a little too late, try tackling them one at a time.

But remember you are allowed the occasional treat – it’s good for your mental health.
