What is a nip-up?
The acrobatic spring regularly features in breakdancing routines and is sometimes also referred to as a kip-up.
It requires the performer to lie on their back and get themselves onto their feet by propelling their body forwards.
They often achieve the nip-up by rolling onto their shoulders and thrusting their legs away from their body.
Where did the nip-up come from?
It’s widely believed that the step originated in martial arts routines.
The move was then adopted by breakdancers, acrobats and gymnasts.
The move looks so impressive because the dancer’s whole body lifts into the air for a split second.
Other disciplines that you may have seen a nip-up in include professional wrestling, parkour and free-running.

On an episode of Gary Barlow’s TV talent show Let It Shine, one of the hopefuls pulled off the perfect nip-up.
