Explaining that Photoshop was out of the question for the older relative who captured the eerie photos, the uploader had turned to the internet to ask for an explanation.
And whilst some users were adamant that the photo had been tampered with, a number of conspiracy theorists claimed that there was no way to explain the sudden appearance of the strange figure.
One believed that the photos had captured a goblin on camera, whilst a more rational commenter suggested the object may be an owl or another fast-moving animal.
Perhaps the best explanation is that the object could be a rolling shutter artefact - essentially a glitch in the camera's shutter which can cause objects to become distorted or smeared in photos.
