Easter eggs will be “smaller and more expensive” this year
Analysts say that the UK’s annual chocolate binge will cost more this year
EASTER eggs will be more expensive and smaller this year, chocolate fans have been warned.
New data shows that the UK’s annual chocolate binge may be in jeopardy as manufacturers squeeze product sizes and supermarkets cut back on price promotions.
The average weight of egg shells have fallen by 6.1 per cent - down from 185g to 174g in the last year, research by IRI UK claims.
While the average price per kg has soared by 18.1 per cent, according to Kantar Worldwide.
Trade magazine, The Grocer said: “Brits should start saving early for Easter this year, as shrinkflation and changes to supermarket promotions threaten to hike the cost of the UK’s annual chocolate binge."
