This cheap flights calendar reveals the lowest fares to top holiday destinations

JANUARY is the most popular time for holiday bookings - but that doesn’t make it the cheapest.

A new calendar put together by CheapFlights.co.uk reveals the destination with the lowest-priced flights, helping those with a serious case of wanderlust pick a destination for their holiday this year.

Anyone planning to jet off at the beginning of the year can make the biggest saving by heading to Cancun, Mexico.

The cost of a flight to Cancun in January is £450, compared to £654 in December - a saving of £204.

While those planning to holiday in October and catch the last of the summer sun should head to Pula in Croatia - where flights cost an average of £83 per person, a saving of £41 compared to booking in May.

Sadly, the search engine can’t work miracles as it admits anyone wanting to holiday in July and August is better off taking a “staycation” and visiting a UK destination instead.

For those with their hearts set on a particular destination it has also put together details on when it’s cheapest to book flights to popular holiday spots.

Anyone wanting to visit New Zealand is best booking a flight in late August/early September - where they can make a £747 saving compared to travelling in early January.

While the cheapest flights to New York are often in early November - a discount of almost £300 on those that travel in late July.

It claims that holidaymakers who can be flexible with when they go away, can use the information to save up to £700 per person.

Andrew Shelton, managing director of Cheapflights said, “As well as revealing the travel dates for the lowest fares, the ‘when to buy, when to fly’ analysis pinpoints the optimum number of days in advance of the departure date that jetsetters should book, in order to bag the bargain fare.”
