The sneaky way you can figure out what’s going in Next’s Boxing Day sale – and how much the discount will be
The Next sale starts in stores on Boxing Day but there’s a way to tell now what items will be included
THE Next sale starts on Boxing Day but there’s a way to identify what items will in it and how much they will be discounted by.
The sale often attracts hoards of shoppers who queue through the night, just to be first in line to grab bargains.
Items are usually marked by staff in the days before the sale starts and this handwritten scribble is the key to spotting what the discount will be, according to MoneySavingExpert.
The codes are written in pencil on the price tag - such as, B14, G4, OB9 and P7. Ignore the letters as the number usually relates to the price the items going down to.
One bargain hunter Charlene Ashley, who lives in Crystal Palace, spotted a tag with the pencil markings in the Bromley branch.
The item, a long blush coloured trench coat, currently costs £90 in store. It has been marked with the code "T45", suggesting it will be discounted to £45 come Boxing Day.
The high street shop has already sent out invites to ‘VIP members’ who can book in a slot to browse the sale online and buy items in advance of it launching in high street shops.
It will only send you out a VIP invite if you have a credit account and have made a recent order.
Next isn’t the only retailer to do this as bargain hunters have spotted other shops doing similar things.
Gary Caffell, deals editor at MoneySavingExpert.com said: “In preparation for sales, staff often scribble numbers or letters on price tags, so if you spot these, it’s worth holding off buying it as it often means the item’s about to be reduced.
“The figure written on the tag is usually the price it will be in the sale and we've spotted this widely used at Next, but have also heard that Monsoon and River Island among others do the same, so it’s worth taking a look.
“It’s also worth keeping an eye on store layouts as quite often items are sorted by type just before a sale kicks off.”
