The Harvester pudding with over 1,200 calories… and 23 other of the most gut-busting desserts available at high street restaurants
Some of them have more sugar than you should have in a whole day
CHRISTMAS is the time for excess… especially if you order one of this desserts.
From a slice of cake with over 1,200 calories to a lethal-sounding pud called Death by Chocolate Waffle, the unhealthiest desserts on offer at high street restaurants have been unveiled.
The team at treated.com looked at food from 24 vendors, totting up which was the worst for calories, which had the most sugar and which scored highest on saturated fat levels.
Those of you thinking you can guess the results already are in for a surprise too, because fast food chains like McDonald’s and KFC actually come pretty far down the list.
Worst for calories
Topping this list is Harvester’s Chocolate Fudge Cake, which has 1,217 calories per serving.
Bearing in mind an adult woman is advised to have about 2,000 calories a day, you can see this really is gut-busting.
Men should have about 2,500 calories a day, so it’s even half their allowance.
Next came Toby Carvery’s Chocolate and Oreo Mess, which has 1,133 calories.
The Millionaires Sundae from JD Wetherspoon has a not-insignificant 1.067 calories, with Table Table’s Rocky Road stuffed with 861.
Rounding out the top five is the Chocolate Etna from Ask Italian, which has 767 calories.
Coming in at the other end of the list was Gourmet Burger Kitchen, whose Yeo Valley Ice Cream Pots – Greek Yoghurt and Honey which is only 117 calories.
Surprisingly, KFC’s Kreamball – Indulgent Chocolate was near the bottom too. The ice cream sundae has chocolate chunks and sauce but came in at number 22 as it’s a surprisingly light 375 calories.
Worst for sugar
Many people are cutting the sweet stuff thanks from their diet thanks to the warnings we eat too much of it.
It’s hard to find a pudding which isn’t crammed with sugar, but some are definitely worse than others.
That Chocolate Fudge Cake from Harvester took the top spot on ‘s research once again, with a massive 128.3g per serving.
Given that adults are only supposed to have an absolute maximum of 90g in a whole day, you can see there’s a bit of a problem.
The Cornish Sundae at JD Wetherspoon came next, with the ice cream concoction stuffed with 122.2g.
Third was Table Table’s Rocky Road with 93.1g, then came Toby Carvery’s Lemon Frost Sundae with 91g and fifth was Pizza Express’ Chocolate Glory. That’s another ice cream sundae, and it has 89.6g.
Gourmet Burger Kitchen once again came out as healthiest, with its Strawberry Yeo Valley Ice Cream Pot having 15.2g.
Next is the Chocolate Brownies from Domino’s which have 20.3g, while at number 22 is the Double Chocolate Brownie from Papa John’s.
That has 38.9g of sugar and some experts would even say this is too much, as it’s been suggested to be really healthy you shouldn’t have more than 30g in 24 hours.
Worst for saturated fat
While there are conflicting warnings about fats, too much saturated fat impacts your health by raising cholesterol and increasing your risk of heart disease.
The recommended daily amount for adults is 20g, so the 53g found in Toby Carvery’s Chocolate and Oreo Mess is obviously too much.
That was number one on the list, followed by Zizzi’s Chocolate and Blood Orange Cheesecake with 32g.
Next was Chocolate Etna, a chocolate and toffee fondant dessert, from Ask Italian which also had 32g.
Millionaires Sunday from JD Wetherspoon followed with 31g, while Pizza Hut’s Death by Chocolate Waffle had 26.29g.
