A confetti canon, a picturesque Italian setting and FOUR designer gowns: Fashion editor throws the most stylish wedding of the year
Giovanna Battaglia tied the knot with her Swedish realtor Oscar Englebert in Capri, Italy
IT was the most Instagrammed wedding of the year thanks to the giant confetti canons, romantic Italian setting and four designer dress changes.
Giovanna Battaglia, a W Magazine fashion editor from Milan, pulled out all the stops while tying the knot to handsome Swedish realtor Oscar Englebert in June.
The lavish celebrations – which even had its own hashtag #gioandoscar – kicked off on Thursday, when fashion’s finest jetted into the picturesque island of Capri for a rehearsal dinner at Piazza Umberto I.
Giovanna dazzled her A-list guests in custom-made Alaïa dress, which had a flamboyant feathered skirt and matching cuffs, and Aquazurra bow-tie heels.
The following day, she changed into an enormous Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding dress – the train was so big (13 feet, to be exact) that all six of her bridesmaids could fit underneath it.
The stunning ceremony took place at the Punta Carena lighthouse, which featured awe-inspiring views of the sea and clifftops.
Giovanna headed for another wardrobe change ahead of the reception – this time opting for a Giambattista Valli macramé minidress with matching Manolo Blahnik thigh-high boots.
She partied the night away with her groom, Dame Natalie Massenet, Anna Dello Russo, Natasha Poly, Peter Dundas and Derek Blasberg.
But it didn’t stop there – the following day the newly-weds threw a ‘Celebration of Exaggeration’ fête on an oil barge, to which Giovanna wore a custom-made Prada dress and a disco ball on her head.
Oscar kept his look simple, slicking his blonde hair back and dressing in a smart black suit and bow tie.
Meanwhile, billionaire Samvel Karapetygan splashed £1.3million on his son’s over-the-top nuptials.
The Armenian-born Russian businessman paid for three designer dresses, a nine-tier cake and for Maroon 5 to sing at Sargis’ big day.
In November, Madina Shokirova, the daughter of oil tycoon Ilkhom Shokirov, tied the knot in a jewel-studded dress worth £517,000.
Nine thousand guests were invited and a 10ft cake made by celebrity cake maker Renat Agzamov took centre stage.
