How many sexual partners is acceptable if you don’t want to scare off a new lover? As discussed on Celebrity Sex Pod
YOUR number of sexual partners is something many people choose to keep quiet, for fear of being judged.
Geordie Shore hunk Gaz Beadle claims to have slept with more than 1,000 women, so how many lovers in acceptable in this day and age?
We unpick the age old question - which will be discussed by TOWIE stunners Courtney Green and Chloe Meadows on tonight's episode of Celebrity Sex Pod.
What is the ideal number of sexual partners?
Three really is the magic number when it comes to the perfect number of sexual partners, according to one study.
Singles looking for love want someone with some experience in the sack – as opposed to either a bed-hopper or a virgin.
The study by Nottingham, Bristol and Swansea universities found those with a long list of exes are seen as more likely to have an STI or cheat.
But boffins found men are less choosy about a woman’s magic number if they are only after a fling.
Researchers quizzed 188 people, including 104 women, about whether they would start a relationship with someone with a long list of bedroom conquests.
Ideally both sexes wanted a long-term relationship with someone who had two past partners and a fling with someone who had no more than three.
Psychologist Dr Steve Stewart-Williams found: “Contrary to the idea that male promiscuity is tolerated but female promiscuity is not, both sexes expressed equal reluctance to get involved with someone with an overly extensive sexual history.”
Their report found: “The only significant sex differences is, men were more willing to get involved with a virgin or with someone with a low number of past sexual partners.
“In the long- term context, the highest willingness ratings for both men and women were for two past partners, in the short-term context, it was three.”
Ironically those quizzed for the study – who were aged in to their mid-thirties - fell short of their own standards.
The average number of past partners was 5.81 for women and 8.4 for men.
How many sexual partners is too many?
A second study revealed that a THIRD of people would break up with her partner if they thought their number of past lovers was too high.
So how many is too many? Superdrug Online Doctor suveyed more than 2,000 people - and found that around 7.5 sexual partners were the ideal number.
While women would see prospective lovers who have slept with more than 15 people as 'too promiscuous', and men tend to draw the line at 14.
In the first study, by those at by Nottingham, Bristol and Swansea universities, people were less accepting of a promiscuous past.
Researchers found that woman were completely turned-off by a man who had slept with more than six people and men were put-off by a woman who had had sex with more than 11.
