From retro cartoon characters to shriek-inducing spiders and colourful cars, these doodles are for the bold only.

A guy called Mike Marquez loved his Air Jordan V trainers so much that he decided to get the design permanently etched onto his skin.

The laces are inked in black on the top of his feet while the fastening sits just above his ankle.

Retro arcade games were popular options for tatt fans.

One man had Nintendo characters Mario and Luigi drawn onto his soles, while another had Pac-Man intricately inked in front of his toes.

Another woman had the comic strip critters Calvin and Hobbes drawn on her left foot and leg.

Foot tattoos are clearly for the jokers among us.

As a protest, one American had former US President George Bush tattooed onto the sole of his foot in a bid to ‘stomp out Bush’.

Meanwhile, a woman had a tiny camel doodled onto her big toe – a play on the embarrassing underwear malfunction ‘camel toe’ – while a guy managed to see the funny side of his missing toe.

He had the quote, “Gone to market. Be back soon. Love, Pig”, written next to it.

Other daring designs include a symmetrical gas mask, a railway map and a car emblazoned with a skull.

Clearly keen to cause a fright, one guy opted for two enormous black spiders while another chose a skeleton design.

But these aren’t the first tatts to raise eyebrows.

A girl was left red-faced after having “up the bum no babies” etched onto her bottom.

While others have opted for booze-inspired emblems and drawings of brands they love.
