Poundland shamed by six-year-old who points out an obvious spelling mistake on a Christmas decoration

Maisie Hastings spotted the error after getting the same word right in her school spelling test

POUNDLAND’s Christmas decorations have come under attack for a huge spelling mistake – spotted by a six-year-old.

Clever Maisie Hastings shamed the store when she pointed out the word ‘mistletoe’ was misspelt on a string of hearts deco that was being sold in hundreds of stores.

The wooden ornaments were all printed with the phrase “Misteltoe Kisses.”

Maisie, from Norfolk, made matters worse for the store’s bosses when she revealed she had spelt the word correctly in her school spelling test.

Her mum Sharon posted a picture of her supersmart daughter on Facebook, holding the misspelt message and the results of her spelling bee and pulling a “sad face”.

Poundland initially offered the family their £1 back and then upped the offer and said they would send her most Christmas goodies, according to her mum Sharon.

She said her daughter was “rather cross” at the error

She : "We laughed about it but put it to one side as we haven't decorated yet for Christmas.

"Then last weekend Maisie had her spellings to check and be tested and out and about again we tested the theory it was a one off.

";Maisie was rather cross when we noticed all of them in Poundland were wrong.

"We laughed - after all it's Poundland – but to a six year old it’s sacrilege.”

Sharon added that Maisie was so disgusted that when she was being tested for the spelling bee on Sunday night, she couldn’t stop “going on” about the spelling mistake.

Sharon said the decorations were also advertised incorrectly on the store’s website.

She said: “It’s unbelievable but incredibly funny. I know things are only a pound but someone should be checking their dictionary and supplier’s spellings.”

This is not the first time Poundland has got into trouble over festive wording.

Last month a joker changed a Christmas display of hanging letters so that it read “B******s”.

Last week the store unveiled its very first Christmas ad, which featured consumers trying their bargain goods and saying how much they thought they were worth.

Poundland's trading director, Barry Williams, said: “We're very excited to be able to announce the launch of our first national Christmas TV ad campaign.

“Amazing value is at the heart of everything we do here at Poundland and Christmas is a huge focus for us as we offer such a diverse range of incredible gifts for just £1.”
