The Yuletide trend is gaining popularity as 25 December fast approaches, with mums and dads looking for unusual merry monikers for their little ones.

From Rudolph to Noel, Jesus to Snow, these names are sure to make the little ones stand out in the school playground.

If your Christmas bundle of joy is a boy, you could choose biblical options such as Joseph, Jesus or Christopher.

Santa Claus-inspired monikers include Nicholas (after St Nick), Klaus and Rudolph - named after the red-nosed reindeer.

Robin, Noel, Gabriel (the archangel sent to the virgin Mary,) and Shepard, also featured.

There’s also a host of festive baby girl names.

Snow, Ivy and Holly conjure up images of oodles of holiday cheer.

While Mary, Grace and Faith are more classic options.

Eve, Josephine and Noelle were also liked by Christmas mad couples.

Meanwhile, data from online baby name database  has revealed the hottest choices for 2016 – and they’re a bit ‘out there’.

The latest trend among parents is to ditch gender stereotypes when it comes to picking their child’s name.

Unisex names like Riley and Rowan are proving popular with girls, while Logan and Charlie are fast becoming a top choice for boys.

Having been a common name in Sweden for years, Astrid now tops the chart for girls, with a 101% rise in popularity online in the US.

Meanwhile many parents are opting for the more traditional James for boys, which is up by 72%.

Names beginning with a vowel are continuing to top the table, with 40 per cent of the 50 most popular girls’ names and over half the boys’ names starting with A (still the leader), E, I, or O in that order.

The website published its findings from looking at which names attracted the most unique views out of the six million visits they received to their ‘name’ pages over the past month.

Nameberry staff then tracked which of the top names had increased by 50 per cent or more compared to the same period last year.

Though many of the names are yet to appear on international popularity lists, their experts reckon the current spike in interest is “sure to translate to much wider adoption in the months and years ahead”.

Last summer the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported the most popular girls name in Britain was Amelia (having held the top spot for two years) while Oliver ranked first for lads.
