This Rolling Stone bassist has been playing with the band for TWO DECADES… and you probably don’t even know who he is

They even exclude him from band photos

THE Rolling Stones are one of the most iconic British bands of all time – but you’ve probably never heard of the bassist who has been playing for them for over two DECADES.

Not only does Darryl Jones tour and perform with the band, he’s also credited for playing in almost every song they’ve released since 1994.

Darryl also contributed to The Rolling Stones’ latest album, Blue and Lonesome, which focuses in on the music of black blues artists.

Even though the jazz-player replaced former member Bill Wyman in 1993, he is yet to be officially accepted into the band.

Everyone is aware of the four iconic members, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood, but Darryl is often forgotten.

Not only is the bassist around 20 years younger than the fellow musicians, he also doesn’t appear in any of the band’s official photos.

This might be why he still feels like he isn’t a part of The Rolling Stones, even after two decades of service.

In an interview with the , Darryl said: "In terms of the membership of this very small and exclusive club I guess I'll always be like the new guy.

“In terms of playing with the band, though, I feel like a bit of an old hand now."

Even though it might seem like the core members have shunned Darryl from the group, Keith Richards has publicly spoken about how much he appreciates the bassist.

In a 1994 interview, he said: “As far as I'm concerned personally, and the boys in the band, if you're on stage with us, you're a Rolling Stone, and that's all there is to it."

The band has been inundated with question on social media as to why they haven’t made Darryl an official Rolling Stones member yet.

Many have also criticised the group for not including their bassist in their publicity shots for their new album, despite his contribution.

Speaking to the BBC, Darryl explained what it would feel like to finally become a member of The Rolling Stones.

He said: "I think most musicians, somewhere deep down inside, even if they are sidemen, or if they are hired players, there is a desire to be in a band.

“And I would not be being completely honest if I said that it would not be wonderful, it would not be amazing, to be considered and, you know, jump into this organisation as a full member.

"But that is not a decision I am in a position to make."
