Excess body hair and protruding ears… parents of Reddit reveal the traits they really wish they hadn’t passed onto their children

IT'S the phrase every parent likes to hear: "Oh they look just like you!"
Unless, of course, your child has inherited some of your traits you'd rather they hadn't.
Parents have taken to to share the traits they wish their kids had never inherited - from body hair to protruding ears.
One mother wrote: "When my son was born I noticed that his ears stuck out quite a bit.
"Not ridiculously, but enough that I wondered where that trait came from. My ears don't do that at all, and neither did my ex-husband's.
"One day I mentioned it to him, and half-joked whether the mailman had ears that stuck out like that.
"Turns out, his ears used to stick out quite far, and at a young age his mother got them "pinned back" via cosmetic surgery. This was my first time hearing about this...talk about false advertising."
While another confessed to passing on the trait of unusually long nose hairs.
Swentech said: "This is a bad one from me. I have a beautiful little 10 year old daughter in every way.
"Very smart, funny, and nice looking girl. Unfortunately every couple of weeks she has to cut nose hairs which are growing too long. I guess I got to take the blame for this one."
While another father has to live with the pain of his daughter being tone deaf: "My daughter loves music and singing. I was a classically trained violinist. Her mother is tone deaf. She didn't take after me. RIP ears."
Others said their children inherited their father's hook nose, excess body hair or poor vision.
The traits weren't just physical traits though, some parents are incredibly frustrated by behavioural traits that have been passed on.
TreeOfLight wrote: "My daughter inherited my husband's insistence in figuring things out on his own.
"It's already difficult enough trying to teach a toddler anything, but when they actively fight your instruction and then throw a tantrum because it's not working out it makes things significantly more so.
"I'm just trying to show you the markers only work if you take the top off. Stop screaming at me."
But she was offered some solace from coconutlemongrass, who said: "Oh my god I feel this so hard.
"We were late everywhere for a very long time when my daughter insisted she could buckle herself into her car seat, and would go nuclear if you even looked at her.
"She's 5 now and very self sufficient for her age, but learning new things is a very frustrating process. (She also knows everything.)"

But discussing unfortunate traits wasn't just left to parents - siblings joined in as well.
One woman said: "My mum is Filipino, my dad is Caucasian, two of my three brothers have thick facial hair the other can't grow a beard to save his life.
"My beardless brother was snooping through my shopping and asked why I had bought tweezers, nonchalantly I replied 'oh just to trim your facial hair'.
"He almost killed me, he gets kiddy shaving kits and fake moustaches for Christmas now."
And a brother has ratted out on his sister's hairy issues.
He wrote: "See, my dad is a hairy dude.
"Consequently my sister's are hairy girls. It take a lot of work for them to deal with all that hair.
"Me on the other hand, I'm basically bald everywhere."
