Originating from the States Black Friday gained its name as it is the day of the year when retailers push into profit and move "into the black".

It is the ideal time for savvy bargain hunters to stock up on their Christmas presents and end of the year purchases ahead of Christmas.

All the major high street players are getting involved with supermarkets like Tesco and Morrisons launching their deals in the week running up to the day.

Sainsburys, however, has played its cards closer to its chest only launching its offers on Black Friday itself.

Shoppers are expected to tot up spending of around £3billion on the momentous consumer event, but it is important to be sure that you are actually getting the best deal possible, with plenty of duds out there.
