  • Focus your efforts - Create a list of the items you need or want and don’t stray from it! From shoes and bags to laptops and cameras, big brands will try and entice you to buy more than you bargained for on Black Friday (often in package deals) and whilst it seems like a good investment at the time, your bank account might not thank you for it this close to Christmas.
  • Set a strict budget  - It’s so easy to get carried away with online spending when it comes to buying the latest gadgets, fashion items and bargains on Black Friday so it’s so important to set yourself a clear and defined budget. And stick to it. It’s easy to think that an extra £50.00 spend won’t matter too much but it can all add up if you break the budget on a number of items.
  • Do your research - Doing your pre-Black Friday research is a good excuse to put your feet up and relax one evening!  Most brands such as John Lewis, ASOS and Marks & Spencer will start to tease consumers with their weighty discounts before they go live on Black Friday. So, try and take a look online or in store before the date and consider the products you’re interested in buying. Always look around for voucher codes on sites such as com.
  • Download the latest apps - If you’re looking for tech, homeware or the latest fashion bargains this Black Friday, you should download their apps before the 25th November. Branded apps such as Amazon and House of Fraser will have will have dedicated Black Friday discount landing pages so you can scan through deals quickly on the day and make the most of the deals.

Deals last the whole weekend - Consumer panic sets in on Black Friday and most people will try and purchase all of their bargains early on, but remember that deals will nearly always last the whole weekend.  Don’t forget, it might be worth holding out until Cyber Monday to see if any of the products you’re looking to buy come down in price more.

  • Pay safely & securely - If you’re shopping online for Black Friday, be sure to use a credit card or Paypal. If you do use a credit card, use one that offers you rewards such as air miles or vouchers for money off your shopping to save even further.
  • Ask for gift receipts - if you're buying gifts for family and friends then remember to ask for a gift receipt so they can return or exchange any unwanted products after Christmas.
