Sainsbury’s unveils its second Christmas advert featuring animations of characters from Gogglebox

The latest festive offering from the British supermarket is due to air tonight during the Channel 4 reality show

NOT content with just one Christmas advert this year, Sainsbury's are set to unveil their SECOND TV campaign tonight.

The latest offering features stop-motion animated versions of some of the nation's favourite characters from Channel 4 hit Gogglebox.

The clever animation was made from real footage of Gogglebox stars Jenny and Lee, Giles and Mary and Stephen and Chris.

As they watched Sainsbury's first Christmas promotion, the six TV personalities reacted like they would in the popular Channel 4 show.

Animators then brought their real life characters to life with stop-motion animation, which transformed them all into cartoons.

Tania Alexander, creator and executive producer of Gogglebox said: "We are fiercely protective of both the Gogglebox brand and the Gogglebox cast and only consider brands with an obvious fit, but Sainsbury's really fitted the bill.

"The cast involved thoroughly enjoyed the filming and making of the ad and from my point of view it's instantly recognisable as a Gogglebox moment but with something uniquely special on top."

Poppy Shute, Campaign Manager at Sainsbury’s said “In recent years we’ve become famous for our Christmas brand campaigns that focus on the message that Christmas is for sharing.

"Working with Gogglebox has been really exciting, not only because we’re doing something brand new but also because we have the opportunity to entertain families like never before.

She added: "This partnership puts our Christmas food offering at the heart of the entertainment, in a setting that we know Sainsbury’s customers enjoy.

"This is particularly relevant as we head into the festive season as families are looking to spend more time together.”

The Gogglebox-inspired advert follows on from Sainsbury's first festive ad which featured a devoted dad called Dave making it home in time for Christmas and the vocals of comedian James Cordon.

Though its heartwarming message wasn't appreciated by everybody - including some of the supermarket’s employees who hit out at having to work over the festive period.

Sainsbury's 2016 Christmas campaign will help raise vital funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity.

All profits from the sale of Gingerbread 'Dave' (£1) and The Greatest Gift film animation kit (£5) will be donated to the charity.
