The ‘rape’ of a majestic snow leopard and a face-planting bobcat: Planet Earth II viewers both shocked and delighted by last night’s incredible show

PLANET Earth II left watchers on the edge of their seats last night, as some took to social media to describe their viewing experience as an “emotional rollercoaster”.

The gripping episode was one of the most action-packed yet, as it contained a comical moment with a face-planting bobcat and a snow leopard’s struggle to protect her young.

In one of the first scenes of the popular nature show, an ibex was seen making a treacherous journey across a mountain edge.

Viewers breathed a sigh of relief as it manoeuvred its way to safety, but it didn’t take long for the cute creature to be back in danger.

As a fox sidled into frame, it became very aware that the ibex would have to run for its life.

Planet Earth fans took to Twitter to debate what they wanted the outcome of the situation to be.

While the majority urged the ibex to be careful, some worried about the fox starving if it didn’t manage to catch some food.

The ibex did manage to get away, to the glee of some viewers.

One watcher said: “That fox got mugged off!” while another remarked: “I went worried about the baby ibex to feeling sorry for the hungry fox in a moment.”

Another scene that left social media users feeling divided involved a snow leopard.

As the mother and baby felines made their way across the snowy terrain, the adult female was spotted by two males.

A furious fight broke out as both male snow leopards attempted to win the female as their mate.

In order to protect the baby snow leopard, the mother rolled over in submission.

Viewers found it difficult to watch the moment that the largest male began to mate with the female, as she seemed to snarl back in protest.

On Twitter user exclaimed: “This snow leopard scene is horrendous.

“Cute mama and baby, fight, violent cat-rape, thankfully they survived!”

Another added: “Snow leopard rape culture on a Saturday night makes for uncomfortable viewing.”

Thankfully, not all of the segments in Sir David Attenborough’s documentary left viewers feeling stressed.

A moment that everyone will remember from last night’s show was when a bobcat face-planted into the snow.

Amusingly, the dopey feline leapt into the air, before crashing straight back down onto the ground.

Social media users were quick to compare the relatable moment to their own lives.

One joked: “That bobcat face planting the snow, is all of us hitting Monday.”

Another couldn't help but liken the comical scene to their wild Saturday night out, claiming: "That Bobcat trying to jump into the snow was an accurate representation of how 5 jagerbombs hit me last night #plentearth2".

And it wasn’t just human viewers that could relate to the comical bobcat moment.

Britain’s cats appeared to be glued to the screen, as many Planet Earth fans took to Twitter to share snaps of their pets lapping up the funny segment.

It's not the first Planet Earth II moment to get viewers giggling this series.

Last week, a bear became everyone's favourite animal as it broke into a Jungle Book-style dance.

Planet Earth II has already proven a huge success, trumping popular talent show The X Factor for viewing figures.
