CHRISTMAS NUMBER ONE

Marks & Spencer launched their Christmas advert 2016 and people are saying it is BETTER than John Lewis’

THE BATTLE for the best Christmas advert is hotting up but excited fans are already declaring Marks & Spencer the winners

CHRISTMAS time is all about family and feasts and, this year, Christmas advert feuds.

This evening Marks & Spencer released their festive advert for 2016 - a three minute clip showing a glamorous Mrs Claus swooping in to save Christmas.

The short film aired at 9pm on Channel 4 and fans have gone crazy for it.

Some have hailed it "the best" of the year and it has even been suggested that it is better than the much anticipated John Lewis advert, which was released on Wednesday.

In Marks & Spencer's advert a young boy called Jake writes to Mrs Claus to implore her to help him reconcile with his sister after allowing the dog to maul one of her shoes.

Mrs Claus promptly rises to the occasion and picks out a gift to personally deliver to the family.

Foregoing the traditional slay, stylish Mrs Claus - who is played by British actress Janet McTeer - opts for a snowmobile followed by a helicopter.

On arriving at the home of Jake, 6, she again bucks tradition by entering through the front door rather than the chimney.

She deposits the gift under the tree and tucks into two mince pies before heading back to the North Pole.

All is forgiven between Jake and his sister when she opens the gift on Christmas morning and Mrs Claus is home in time to welcome her husband back from his annual trip.

And another was in agreement saying: "So the marks and Spencer's Christmas advert is the best."

Tweeter @Emilyjpackham said: "Love the Marks and Spencer's Christmas advert this year, beats John Lewis I think."

But it wasn't a unanimous victory for M&S, with @FindingCotton tweeting: "John Lewis Christmas Advert > Marks & Spencer Christmas Advert."

The John Lewis advert was released last Wednesday and was widely enjoyed although there were concerns that children would notice lack of Santa Clause as it features a little girl’s dad putting up a trampoline instead of Father Christmas.
