Apparently, the healthiest time to poo is within 30 minutes of waking up. Specific, eh?

But there is clever science behind this allotted time frame.

It all comes down to our small intestines and colon being busy processing the food from the day before while we are asleep.

Then, once we wake up and start moving around, our bowels are ready to release yesterday's waste.

But, if you struggle with irregular bowel movements and this doesn’t happen, don’t despair - there are certain things you can do to encourage your bowel clock to get back on track.

1. Try to eat and sleep in a regular pattern

2. Eat plenty of fibre, fruit and veg

3. Stay hydrated

4. Exercise

5. Avoid processed foods

6. Go to the loo when you naturally need to – avoid holding anything in
