Aldi’s Christmas advert 2016 features Kevin the Carrot on a festive adventure
After numerous hints Aldi has revealed its Christmas advert starring a home-grown ledgend Kevin the Carrot
ALDI has been secretly teasing shoppers with Kevin the Carrot for weeks and today it unveiled he is the star of their Christmas advert.
The ad is narrated by award-winning actor Jim Broadbend and tells the story of an adventurous carrot who makes a journey across a Christmas dinner table to meet Santa.
The root vegetable climbs over various dishes and even a bottle of fizz to cling onto Santa’s sleigh, clinging onto a reindeer’s antlers, over London, Glasgow and Bristol.
Over the past few weeks Aldi has been teasing the character on social media, including a Twitter account for Kevin that said: "Legends aren’t born, they’re grown" followed by the #kevinthecarrot hashtag.
It has also launched a limited-edition Kevin the Carrot toy that will be sold across UK stores for £2.99 - with all the profits going to charity, Barnados.
Last year, Aldi took a pop at John Lewis with a spoof advert showing a pensioner sitting with two telescopes - one which was markedly cheaper at the budget budget supermarket.
John Lewis is due to launch it’s own Christmas advert on Thursday 10 November.
Earlier today a teaser trailer appeared on Twitter, with many speculating that it was a clue to the retailer’s festive video.
