Student’s fake John Lewis Christmas 2016 advert goes viral after people mistake it for the real deal
THE release of the John Lewis Christmas advert is one of the most anticipated moments of the year.
It signals the start of the festive season, and provides a sense of excitement in the increasingly cold winter days.
So when one talented student created his own version of the much-anticipated John Lewis ad, his Snowglobe video soon went viral – with a lot of people mistaking it for the real deal.
Amazingly the clip, which is set to the track Follow You Follow Me by Vapor ft Adaline, was created by A Level student Nick Jab for his A2 media coursework.
The bashful teenager even described it as a ‘rushed job’ which he claims to have created in just two weeks.
The has been viewed more than 370,000 times – and is a touching love story about two snowmen, one of whom is trapped in a snow globe.
And people are absolutely loving it. Commenter Joanne KT wrote: “Absolutely amazing… it’s so sad and yet made me smile too.”
While Carbonzilla wrote: “If the advert’s anything like this I’ll be happy with it.”
And Arcturan Megadonkey added: “Very impressive!
I’d give you full marks for this if I was your teacher and if I was a production company I’d employ you!”
The Killah Gamer wrote: “This is really good! Can just imagine this being a John Lewis Christmas advert. Well done!”
And Ivana Havitoff called it ‘beautifully emotional’.
Nick’s video let to a flurry of questions to the creator.
In response, he wrote: “I did it for my A2 AQA media coursework.
“My chosen essay was on John Lewis and how successful their marketing campaign has become.
“Along with the essay I had to create a linked production piece, and this was my attempt on creating a John Lewis style advert. As far as I remember I think it got full marks.
“All of the modelling, animating, lighting and rendering were done in Cinema 4D.
“All of the compositing and even music were done in After Effects. The rendering was done using the Physical Renderer.
“The actual production took about two weeks including rendering. It was a very rushed piece, I’ve left it till the last month to do it…
“Creating a short film is a lot of work especially when it’s CGI, I was responsible things outside of my comfort zone like character animation and lighting, so be forgiving.
“This was literally uploaded to showcase the production piece.
“I wasn’t going to upload it at first as I’m fairly critical of my work, but I thought I wouldn’t lose anything if I uploaded it, even for people to use as inspiration for their coursework.
“The song is Vapor ft Adaline – Follow You Follow Me.
“I was stuck for a while … The video isn’t monetised, the song fits perfectly with the story and the mood so why not!
“To clarify, I do not affilate myself with John Lewis or any of their production companies. This video is nothing more than a showcase of my last year’s media work.”
