Women share their spooky stories, claiming that they have encountered ‘ghosts’
Scary settings for the alleged happenings include an antiques shop, an abandoned psychiatric centre and an empty high school
WOMEN who believe that they’ve been haunted have shared their spooky encounters to mark Halloween.
Sharing their eerie tales on Cosmopolitan.com, the women seem to have been deeply affected by their experiences – and many have been left positively believing in ghosts.
Scary settings for the alleged happenings include an antiques shop, an abandoned psychiatric centre and an empty high school.
Allie, 19, claimed that she was out shopping with a friend when the pair suddenly heard “the sound of running” coming from the floor above them.
However, when the friends climbed a narrow flight of stairs to investigate they found it “crammed with antiques” - but there was nobody there.
She added: “Creeped out though we were, we continued to look at the artefacts when I picked up a teacup and told my friend it would be a good gift for my grandmother.
“As she came over, clear as day, we heard a little girl giggle right next to us. I threw the teacup down and we flew down the stairs.”
And things turned even creepier when they spoke to the shop owner, who went on to explain that the building used to house an apartment which was ravaged by fire in the mid-1800s - killing a five-year-old girl.
A few weeks after their visit, Allie says that she peered up at the shop one night when she was driving past and saw “a little girl's face peering down out the corner of one of the windows”.
Yikes.
21-year-old Sydney also had a terrifying tale to tell.
She had been walking around an abandoned psychiatric centre alone taking photographs in the snow when she stopped to sit down on a three-foot-high wall.
However, as she sat down she “felt two hands behind me that pushed me out of this window”.
While she didn’t fall far, she landed in a six-foot snow bank and left as soon as she could – needless to say she never returned after that.
She added: “A few other times I was there, ladders would suddenly break loose, ones I had just checked the tightness of. There were always strange movements and noises.
“I was there with a few people and we all heard a bloodcurdling scream coming from below us.”
Sarah’s story happened when she was in middle school.
She had been taking part in a school musical one summer when she and a group of friends sneaked into a next door school.
Once inside, it was dark, aside from the light coming in through the windows, and they saw a woman holding a mop and bucket.
The 20-year-old added: “She was all grey, including her stringy grey hair covering most of her face.
“All four of us immediately screamed and ran out of there. We all confirmed what we saw, feeling crazy.”
When they went back to where they had been rehearsing they saw the 'real janitor' who told them that she was the only staff member at the school all summer.
Stephanie, 24, experienced her spooky incident when she and five friends hired a “small but cosy” cottage by a lake over the summer.
On the second day, she said “things began to get weird” when the group heard footsteps in the house.
A also broom vanished and was later found in the basement and they all said that they could feel the 'presence' of a man in the building.
When they researched the property, the friends then found out that two men had recently died in the lake.
The group also started “freaking out” after they came in from roasting marshmallows outside to find six upside-down water bottles next to the sink.
Stephanie said: “We had left the kitchen clean when we had left to build the fire. We all slept together in the living room that night and left the very next day.”
They later found out that the men died after their canoes “flipped upside-down”.
Gulp.
