Man complains to Sainsbury’s on Twitter… and strikes up hilarious romance with service rep

Craig Hazell was angry at the supermarket's lack of contactless payment options... until he met Amanda

AS Ed Sheeran once said, people fall in love in mysterious ways.

That was certainly the case for Twitter user Craig Hazell, who found the wind beneath his chicken wings after posting a complaint to Sainsbury's.

The London-based podcaster and TV researcher was angry about the British supermarket failing to provide adequate contactless payment systems in its stores and sent a sarcastic tweet to the brand's account.

In response, a service rep called Amanda informed Craig that Sainsbury's is "hoping to be contactless in many stores before the end of the year, with the rest joining early in 2017".

Seemingly satisfied by her reply, Craig got a bit cheeky, writing: "Thanks Amanda. I bloody love your hot counter. I don't mean that in a flirty way."

It was at this point that things really started to heat up.

Amanda responded: "Thanks Craig! You're speaking my language though. Love a chicken wing or two! Amanda."

Clearly smitten, Craig started rolling out the romantic hashtags in an attempt to woo his supermarket sweetheart.

He replied: "I'm pretty sure there's more than 2 in a portion. Maybe we could share a bag sometime #FlyOnTheWingsOfLove #YouCanHotCountOnMe".

It clearly did the trick, as Amanda joined in: "You know the way to a girls heart!#TheWindBeneathMyChickenWings Amanda."

Craig then chimed in with a joke - which Amanda didn't appear to find funny judging by her stony silence.

It went down well with her colleague Daryl though, who tweeted: "Hahahaha, good one Craig."

Craig and Amanda's love affair was by now attracting the attention of other Twitter users - with one even posing as Amanda's unimpressed boyfriend.

He joked: "Amanda’s boyfriend: How was your day? Amanda: Don’t ask, I had to pretend to laugh at this punning p***k all day."

Eventually Amanda returned to the chat - but not before fellow service rep and Craig's self-appointed "wing woman" Maria had got involved.

After Craig suggested a romantic date at the Sainsbury's Oxford Circus hot counter, Amanda delivered a crushing blow, writing: "Bit too long distance for me. Maybe we should just be friends? Amanda."

Last month we reported how Sainsbury's shoppers were up in arms after certain sandwiches were removed from the store's meal deal offer.

Sainsbury’s hit back at the furious customers, claiming their On The Go range offers customers better value for money.
