British Airways staff make a blunder by posting rival Virgin’s ad on their Facebook page

Eagle-eyed workers at Sir Richard Branson's airline thanked bitter rivals after the plane crazy mistake

EVER had that sinking feeling when you realise you just shared something you really shouldn’t have?

Spare a thought for the social media team at British Airways who made an almighty blunder this week when they shared an ad from rival Virgin.

The post was shared on BA's own Facebook

The Facebook post read: “There’sever been a better time to visit London. Book today with Virgin Atlantic.”

But someone at BA liked the ad so much they accidentally clicked the share button  - and posted it on their own page.

The high-flying types at Virgin were quick to jump on the case.

They replied: “Thanks British Airways! So kind of you to share! #somethingweagreeon #flyvirginatlantic.”

The post was swiftly removed but not before plenty of people had spotted it and commented.

One Facebook user wrote: “I think someone’s getting fired.”

Another added: “Trying to get rid of some customers?”

One asked: “Did someone click the ‘share button’ post by mistake?

Richard Branson must have been flashing that famous grin from ear to ear, but someone over in British Airways HQ must be pretty worried.

The airlines have been bitter rivals since the nineties, when British Airways was forced to pay £3 million in costs after admitting a “dirty tricks” campaign against Branson’s brand.

In 1999, when the BA London Eye was late being erected, Sir Richard flew a hot air balloon over the site with the words “BA Can’t Get It Up” emblazoned on the sides.

In 2012, boss wagered Branson a “knee in the groin” that Virgin wouldn’t exist in 2017 – a bet he seems to be losing.

Richard Branson – who was involved in a near fatal bike crash in August - recently waded in to slam Jeremy Corbyn’s claims he had to sit on the floor on a Virgin train because of overcrowding.
