Inspirational mum posts emotional video in defence of ‘bully’ son, revealing the reason for his anger
AN inspirational mum has defended her 'bully' son in an emotional video which explains the reason for his angry outbursts.
Sonia Buckley, from Victoria, Australia, read an open letter addressed to Billy's school and the parents of his peers, in which she described her "beautiful boy" as "lost in a judging world".
Posting the six-minute clip to Facebook, she explained how its not her son's fault that he acts the way he does.
Sonia explained: "You may think he’s a bully. He may have said some nasty things or even hurt your child, and for that I’m truly sorry.
"From a very young age Billy has suffered from ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), ODD (oppositional defiant disorder), intellectual learning disability and severe behavioural disorder."
She told how her son, who is in Year 7, has very low comprehension and language skills, which means he doesn't understand the world like other people.
Sonia said: "Billy interprets everything very differently to what most people would.
"If Billy doesn't understand he may react."
She recalled the devastating times her son was shunned by other kids who didn't want to talk or play with him.
Sonia explained: "It's so sad to see your child not invited to birthday parties or sleepovers.
"It breaks my heart.
"Billy comes home crying most days saying he has no friends and hates school.
"People think Billy is a bully, but Billy doesn't understand the world and the world doesn't understand him.
"Unfortunately, kids know they will get a reaction out of Billy and deliberately provoke him."
Towards the end of the clip Sonia becomes tearful and pleads with those watching to educate their children about disabilities, adding she hopes Billy will "make some friends".
Her video has since been viewed more than 51,000 times, with sympathetic parents flocking to offer their support.
One commented on the clip: "You are an inspirational mum my three sons have also been bullied at mainstream schools! I can tell that you have so much love for your son I really hope that things turn around for you all."
Another wrote: "Hugs to you Sonia and Billy - what a beautiful boy you have. Thank you for sharing your story I do hope this becomes viral so everyone can see it and cry just like I did. All the very best."
