Marks & Spencer Christmas advert 2016 – when is it being released, song predictions and where can I see it first?
WITH the festive period almost upon us, it's time to start thinking about those eagerly anticipated Christmas adverts which many agree are the official start of the season.
Every year, M&S release a festive-themed advert and while they’re often kept a tightly-lipped secret – we can still make our predictions for what the shop has in store.
When can I see the M&S Christmas advert?
Often the ad is released some time before Christmas to allow time for children to fall in love with the merchandise or adults getting that last bit of inspiration.
Last year’s advert, which features a variety of models strutting their stuff in the latest clothes from the brand, was aired on November 6.
In the years before that, the adverts were aired a little later on, so, if you're hoping to catch a glimpse of the new one keep an eye open around early November.
Which song will be used in the advert?
Over the past few years M&S have used a variety of songs, their 2013 advert, which featured Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and David Gandy, had a magical score to give a Christmassy feel.
The year after that, the fairy-filled advert was set to a silky smooth cover by Julie London of Frank Sinatra's Fly Me To The Moon.
The song was released in the UK on 12 November 2014 and is still available on iTunes for 79p, however it didn't make the top 100 charts.
Last year, the M&S advert featured an instrumental version of the hugely popular song Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars.
The chart topping funky tune provided the perfect backdrop to the advert, which sees a number of women strutting their stuff.
This year it's difficult to guess which song will be featured but if the sneak peak of the pictures with Emma Thompson are anything to go by, it'll most likely be a classy affair.
A look back at previous years
2013: The Fairytale Book with Sparkle the dog
The 2013 advert featured Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, David Gandy and Sparkle the dog in a fairytale themed clip.
It starts with the stunning model losing her little dog Sparkle and she finds herself transported to scenes from Alice In Wonderland, Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel and finally The Wizard of Oz.
2014: The gift-giving fairies
In 2014 the M&S advert was based around two magical fairy helpers who were providing the town with the prefect presents for Christmas.
And once the presents were sorted, the fairy helpers then made it snow for all the children.
2015: The Art of Christmas
Last year, the M&S advert had a variety of both adult and children models showing off the company's clothing selection.
The advert also features a table scene which has all the food products available in store laid out on it.
