Mum insists she’s ‘given her kids life’ after THROWING AWAY their toys… and is urging other parents to follow her lead
Allie Casazza believes too many toys stop children bonding with each other
A 'MINIMALIST' mum who threw away nearly all of her children’s toys has posted a passionate call-to-arms on Instagram, urging other parents to do the same.
Allie Casazza argues that children are "naturally happy little creatures" and will become more creative and contented the fewer toys they have.
After getting rid of most of the toys in their house, the mum-of-three shared a photograph of her children playing together in her stylish, uncluttered living room – with just one small toy box beside them.
The box contains "every toy my kids have, except Legos, and it's only about halfway full".
Her post argues: "If you remove everything they've been told to stay entertained with, they will complain for a few days, but pretty soon their God-given imaginations will breathe a deep sigh and be brought to life again."
She says that noisy toys get in the way of siblings bonding with each other and believes that "less stuff" makes for a happier house and a happier family.
Though most parents seemed to agree with her outlook, others suggested it was impossible to maintain this level of minimalism, especially when toys are often bought for their children by other people.
Swoopbags said: "I totally agree with you and how 'Stuff owns you - you don't own stuff.' It feels SO great to purge!"
Another mum, Jessibridges, commented: "Ok serious question. How do you deal with christmas? Not just what you get them but what family gives them. And what are some ideas other than toys for gifts?"
Lauraloolittle replied: "We have all the grandparents buy a membership somewhere for the kids' Christmas gifts. Every year they get a zoo pass, science centre pass and pass the to indoor playground, and they always expire the next year at Christmas, so it's perfect. Keeps us busy on the days we don't stay home, and they love gifting the kids 'experiences'."
One mum, Malleriemaddison, wrote a cry for help: "please help me! 5 boys and the house and mess is so overwhelming I could cry :-("
