Mum who made son an extra packed lunch for months stunned to discover he was making sure his friend didn’t go hungry
A MUM baffled as to why her son always asked for two packed lunches was touched to discover he was making sure his friend didn't go hungry.
Josette Duran, from Albuquerque, New Mexico, had been making up two meals for months before she found out what her kindhearted lad, Dylan, was up to.
The mum-of-one was so moved by the 14-year-old's gesture that she carried on making extra lunches for his friend, later finding out he was being raised by a single mother who'd recently lost her job.
Months into their strange routine, Josette challenged Dylan about the double lunches, asking: "Are you not getting full, boo?"
Dylan confessed he gave the other meal to his friend, as apparently all he had to eat every day was a "fruit cup".
Josette shared the story in an emotional Facebook Live video.
She explained: "This hits home to me because a few years ago, me and my son were homeless.
“I was living in my car and I was washing him in bathrooms. And we didn’t have food.”
Shortly after Josette got in the habit of making two packed lunches she received a call from Dylan's school asking her to come in.
Dylan’s friend's mum had found out what she was doing and wanted to pay her back, having just got a new job – but Josette refused.

Instead, Josette donated £326 ($400), which was raised by her female volleyball team, to the school’s cafeteria.
The money paid off the accounts of other children whose parents owed cash for school lunches.
In her video Josette explained: "[I'm not doing this] for praise or anything; it’s pretty - it's pretty intense."
She added: "Now, nobody in that school owes any money, and now everyone can eat."
Speaking about her son's generous act, she told Mail Online: "I was totally shocked, I had no idea why I was making two lunches, I just did it.
"Dylan is too kindhearted. He is my hero."
