THESE days a million subscribers on YouTube is child's play compared to Zoella's army of 11million or PewDiePie's 55million.
But well before YouTube numbers blew up, there was Charlie McDonnell, the first UK vlogger to hit 1million followers.
The YouTuber, and his channel has since grown to almost 2.4million... here's all you need to know about the original social media star...
Who is Charlie McDonnell and what is his background?
Charlie was born on October 1, 1990 in Bath.
He has two younger siblings, brother William and sister Bridie.
What else does he do?
Charlie has now launched a science book, off the back of the popular segments on his channel, the YouTuber named his debut book, Fun Science: A Guide to Life, the Universe & Why Science is so Awesome.
Following his success in 2011, Charlie was offered a place on Celebrity Big Brother - but turned it down.
Charlie seems to have made the most of his position as YouTube royalty and has supported several campaigns and charities including UNICEF, Cancer Research and the Home Office's "This Is Abuse" drive to educate people on the importance of consensual sex.
He's also spoken candidly about suffering from anxiety and depression.
In one video he said: "I've suffered from anxiety all my life and depression - from about 16 - which is coincidentally when I started YouTube...
"Don't know whether those two are connected, but pretty sure they are!"
He's also created videos with big name brands such as Sony, Disney, the BBC and Tommy Hilfiger and lent his voice to the lead role in video game Volume, created by Mike Bithell.
