From today, shoppers can book a free Christmas consultation appointment at the retailer’s Oxford Street or Sloane Square stores in London. Appointments start on 1 December.

While the initial in-store appointment is free, a home visit costs £250, which can be redeemed on products in the store’s Christmas shop.

To get the tree delivered and set up with decorations in your home costs an additional £200, taking the cost of the full festive package to £450.

Anna Rigby, head of buying for home and gift accessories at John Lewis, said: “It is a premium service but having somebody take the weight of Christmas decorating off your mind is something special.
“We want to make Christmas as easy as possible for our customers.”

Dan Cooper, Christmas buyer, at John Lewis, said: “As a nation, we’re getting ever more competitive in ensuring that our tree is the best on the block and we then want to be able to share it on social media in a bid to keep up with the Joneses.

“We’ve also seen evidence of a rise in the multi-tree household with people purchasing more than one tree and creating more than one look.
