The best Halloween films and series on Netflix this October
HALLOWEEN is coming, and there's no better way to celebrate than with a scary movie and some popcorn.
We've rounded up the best scary offerings on Netflix from the monstrous to the bloody.
American Horror Story: Murder House
An anthology series produced by Ryan Murphy.
Throughout the 12 episodes you experience much more than creaky flooboards.
Outrageous and totally creepy.
You'll love the other later seasons too.
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
This 1920s film, is an oldy but a goodie and one of the most famous movies to come out of German Expressionism.
The film follows a Dr. Caligari, who uses hypnosis to manipulate a sleep-walking man to commit murders.
The Exorcist
The quintessential horror film and scariest film of all time.
The Exorcist follows the story of a girl who is possessed and the deadly steps taken to exorcise the demon from her.
Cujo
This is both sad and frightening. Poor St Bernard Cujo contracts rabies and turns into monster that torments the people of the town.
It's quite sad to see the dog transform in his normal friendly state.
Based on the novel by Stephen King.
A Girl Walks Home At Night
This 2014 film is a combination of western, vampire and love story.
This romance-thriller movie features was filmed in black and white.
It talks about the story of a female vampire wandering around the streets in Iran.
Dexter
Another series, but with eight gripped seasons prepare to become addicted to the how.
The show follows Dexter, a man who appeases his addiction for killing by only murdering people who "deserve" to die. It's gruesome yet darkly funny.
The Babadook
Described by Stephen King as "deep disturbing and highly recommended," The Babadook sees a single mother attempt to rid her home of a frightening monster that has come from a storybook found on her son's shelf.
The Addams Family
The first movie to chronicle the lives of Charles Addams' "creepy, kooky" family.
Not scary, but a Halloween classic.
Sleepy Hollow

Corpse Bride
If horror movies aren't for you, get can get in the holiday spirit with Corpse Bride, Tim Burton's film about a young man (Johnny Depp) who accidentally marries a dead woman (Helena Bonham-Carter) the night before his wedding day.
The River
A team are tasked with finding a missing explorer in the Amazon, a suitably creepy location, and, unsurprisingly, something happens...
It if very cleverly paced, often going for a chilling slow burn rather than a big scare.
Hush
A masked intruder terrorises a deaf author who lives in a secluded cottage in the woods.
The Nightmare
This is a very scary, and a documentary rather than a film.
Its simple structure involves in-depth interviews with eight people who all suffer from some form of sleep paralysis as they describe the horrifying visions they encounter on a nightly basis.
It’s equal parts tragic and chilling to hear how the condition has made their nighttime hours into a living hell, and legitimately frightening to watch those scenes reenacted.
One of the subject describes the terror as “the kind of horror that is worse than movies.” If you’re going to watch this documentary, you don’t want to do it before falling asleep.
Luther
OK, so you may think this is another standard BBC crime thriller.. but you would be wrong.
This is something much more dark and morally ambiguous.
Idris Elba is perfect in the lead role as is Ruth Wilson, who plays his murderous confidante.
Scream 2
Scream is a hard act to follow, but this innovative, self-aware movie still scares the pants of viewers.
The FlyThis camp sci-fi mystery/horror is a real horror class from the 1950s.
It revolves around the police investigation of why a woman killed her husband with a hydraulic press.
Jaws
Ok, Jaws isn't quite a horror film, but its a scary classic nonetheless.
The first time Ray sees the jaws of the best is one of the most scream inducing moments in cinema history.
