Tech jobs get major pay rise – so which careers will get you the best-paid salaries in the UK today?

THE digital economy is expanding, meaning that the salary for technology-related jobs is set to soar.
According to a recent survey by recruiters Robert Half, tech staff can expect a pay rise of up to 4.5 per cent next year.
Statistics from the ONS reveal that the average British salary is £22,487 a year.
As the news of these lucrative digital roles has emerged online, here are the top ten best-paid job salaries in the UK.
1. Pilots and flight engineers
The travel industry can be a pricey business, with pilots and plane engineers raking in the most cash.
On average, this sector has a median pay of £84,592 per year.
2. Chief executives
It can be tough work setting up your own business, but entrepreneurs that get it right can make an absolute fortune.
Chief executives, such as Lord Sugar, have an average annual pay of £80,871.
3. Transport associate professionals
As engineering can be such a lucrative profession, it’s no surprise that the transport sector features on the ONS rich list.
Transport professionals working on our rail, road and air network earn an average pay of £77,029 per year.
4. Air traffic controllers
This vital job role ensures that planes complete take-off and landing correctly, as well as tracking all flights.
The workers, who represent the RAF or commercial airlines, earn an annual average of £73,430.
5. Marketing and sales directors
Fans of the popular TV show Mad Men may have caught a glimpse into the luxuriously crazy life of an advertising executive.
Marketing directors, like the fictional Don Draper, rake in a median pay of £68,338.
6. Medical practitioners
All that medical training might prove worth the money, as GPs are the sixth biggest earners in Britain.
These professionals, which include surgeons and senior health officials, earn an average annual pay of £65,843.
7. Senior police officers
These statistics don’t include all of the coppers that walk the street, but focuses more on the senior staff members on the police force.
The group, made up of detective, constables and commissioners, earn an average of £65,843 per year.
8. IT and telecommunications
As the Robert Half survey shows, the technology industry is booming.
Tech professionals are highly sought out for because of their knowledge of the digital world, which is why employers fork out an average £61,082 a year in exchange for their work.
9. PR and advertising directors
Another highly-paid industry is public relations, as some workers are paid a fortune to head up important campaigns.
The average annual pay for PR workers and advertising directors is £60,545.
10. Senior officers in ‘protective services’
Security workers who deal with up-market or dangerous clients are often rewarded with a large sum of cash.
These experienced security guards, bailiffs and prison supervisors earn an average of £57,030 per year.
